Like Seattle, with more sun. An American version of Berlin. A liberal southern city. An easy-to-access off-the-beaten-path kind of place. And yes, it’s a little weird.
No matter how you describe Austin, there’s just no substitute for experiencing it for yourself.
I needed a physical (and mental) health break after my NPC competition. As a result, I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than in the city of Austin with some of my favorite peeps.
In the list below you’ll find a few of the top activities we undertook while in Texas:
Learn to two-step at The White Horse. This is NOT line dancing. Most importantly, two-stepping is easier. In my opinion, this makes it much more fun. Especially after a round or two of shots.
Austin’s Local Pool
Sunbathe and people gaze at Barton Springs Pool. It’s an Austin classic, having been around since the 1970s and has managed to keep the “stayin’ alive” vibes very much alive.
Brunch at Counter Culture. It’s a vegan restaurant that specializes in soul food and it’s good enough to fool your meat eating friends. I would know because I am all about the protein, but their biscuits and sausage gravy were better than most true blue southern diners. And if you are going meat free, I also loved their raw oatmeal banana split…because life is short and you should eat dessert first.
Embrace your inner artist at the Hope Outdoor Gallery. This downtown park was once designated for condos but the plan was abandoned and now it’s a 3-tiered graffiti wall where street artists of every level go to show off their skills.
